Mock Meet Tonight – Important Information, Heat Sheets & Event Details
Hi Mako Families,
We are excited for our Mock Meet tonight! This is a great opportunity for our swimmers, volunteers, officials, coaches, and families to practice our meet procedures before our first official meet on Thursday.
Please remember that tonight is a learning experience for everyone. There may be a few delays or adjustments as we work through the flow of a swim meet, and that's exactly why we hold a Mock Meet before the regular season begins!
Arrival & Team Photo
Please plan to arrive between 4:30 PM and 4:45 PM so swimmers have time to check in with their age group tents and get settled before our team photo.
For the team photo:
- Wear your team suit
- No team cap for the photo
Immediately following the photo, swimmers should return to their age group tents to put on their caps and goggles and prepare for warmups.
What to Bring
Please remember to bring:
- Team cap
- Goggles (a backup pair is always a good idea!)
- Water bottle
- Towel
- Plenty of team spirit and patience as we learn together
Warmups
Our goal is to begin warmups as follows:
- 10 & Under: 5:10 PM
- 11 & Over: Approximately 5:20 PM
(As with everything tonight, these times are approximate as we work through the flow of the evening.)
Event Order
Tonight's events will be:
- Backstroke
- Freestyle
- Freestyle Relays
Because we are only swimming a limited number of events, this meet will move VERY quickly.
Tent Parent & Clerk of Course Reminders
To help the meet run smoothly, we need swimmers to remain with their age group tents whenever they are not swimming.
Please avoid having swimmers return to sit with parents between events. Our Tent Parents and Clerk of Course volunteers need to be able to locate swimmers quickly and line them up for their races. Staying with the team helps ensure no one misses an event and keeps the meet moving efficiently.
Heat Sheets & Writing Events on Arms
Attached you will find both the Heat Sheet and an Athlete Event Sheet.
Please review the Heat Sheet before arriving so you have a general idea of when your swimmer's events will occur.
You may use the Athlete Event Sheet to write your swimmer's events on their arm before the meet.
Common abbreviations include:
- E = Event
- H = Heat
- L = Lane
Example:
E12 / H3 / L4
This tells your swimmer they are swimming Event 12, Heat 3, Lane 4.
Relay Information
We worked hard to include as many of our younger swimmers in relays as possible tonight. If your swimmer is not assigned to a relay for the Mock Meet, please don't worry.
Relay assignments are one of the most challenging parts of coaching summer swim and will change throughout the season based on attendance, event entries, swimmer availability, and team needs. Not being assigned to a relay tonight does not mean your swimmer will not have relay opportunities later in the season.
Pool Setup Map
We have also attached the pool setup map to help families understand where team tents, spectator seating, Clerk of Course, and other meet areas will be located during swim meets this season.
Weather
We will be keeping an eye on the weather throughout the afternoon. At this time, we are planning to swim as scheduled, but as always, safety comes first.
Please do your best "No Thunderstorms Dance" for us today! 🕺☀️🦈
If weather impacts the schedule, we will communicate updates through SwimTopia alerts and team communications.
End of the Meet
Once your swimmer has completed all of their events, you are welcome to head home. There will not be any awards or formal closing ceremony following the Mock Meet.
Thank you for your patience and enthusiasm as we kick off our first meet-style event of the season. We are looking forward to a fun evening and a great opportunity for everyone to learn how our meets operate before Thursday's season opener!
Go Makos! 🦈
